Prosecutors: Newark Man Charged With Kidnapping Child To Sexually Assault
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A Newark man was arraigned Tuesday on kidnapping and other charges, prosecutors said.
Pedro Rios, 57, is accused of kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, and hindering apprehension.
Police were investigating Rios for allegedly trading child pornography online, prosecutors said.
Rios kidnapped a child younger than 13 to sexually assault her, prosecutors said, adding that Rios has not been charged with sexual assault as yet.
Rios apparently found out he was being investigated and took off, but was arrested in California by U.S. Marshals, prosecutors said.
The investigation into Rios remains active and ongoing.
Rios pleaded not guilty to all charges at his court appearance. He is being held on $725,000 bail.
