Officials: N.J. Woman Accused Of Attacking Husband With Cooking Oil, Axe, Surrenders
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Franklin Township woman accused of attacking her husband last week while he was sleeping has turned herself into police.
Mauvette Mattandeen, 41, surrendered to detectives around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano. She faces attempted murder and weapons charges, and her bail was set at $500,000 cash
Mattandeen's husband was sleeping in the couple's Oswestry Way home when Mauvette Mattandeen sprayed him in the face with an unknown chemical substance, Soriano said.
While the man was in the shower washing off the chemical, prosecutors said Mauvette Mattandeen dowsed him with a pot of cooking oil.
Mattandeen then allegedly chased her husband as he ran out of the bathroom and tried to attack him with an axe, detectives said.
Mattandeen was able to get the axe from his wife before running to a neighbor for help, prosecutors said.
The husband remains at St. Barnabas Hospital, where he is being treated for severe burns to his head, face and upper torso.
