Prosecutors: Former NJ Assistant Scout Master Charged With Sex Abuse
MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities in New Jersey have arrested a former assistant scout master on charges he allegedly sexually abused two Boy Scouts more than a decade ago.
Stephen Corcoran, 45, faces several charges including aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Morris County prosecutors said Friday.
Officials said they were notified on Sept. 18 of the alleged incidents that occurred between 1997 and 1999 when Corcoran was an assistant scout master and Eagle Scouts advisor with Boy Scout Troop 173.
Two former scouts claimed they were sexually abused by Corcoran, prosecutors said. One of the alleged victims said one of the sexual encounters with Corcoran occurred in 1999 when he was under the age of 16, prosecutors said.
Bail was set at $150,000 and a judge ordered Corcoran have no contact with the alleged victims or anyone under 16 years old.
