Defendant In Newark Schoolyard Killings Trial Contradicts Tape
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- There is explosive testimony from one of six men charged in a 2007 triple murder in a Newark schoolyard.
Alexander Alfaro says he was told by a Newark police detective to make a false statement when he was arrested two weeks after the murders.
Alfaro's testimony Monday came after the prosecution rested its case. Last week, prosecutors played the taped statement in which Alfaro admits slashing one of the victims with a machete before all three were shot execution-style.
Alfaro said Monday that the detective told him to corroborate what other defendants had said.
Alfaro testified his brother, Rodolfo Godinez, ordered him to bring a machete to the playground and then used it himself.
