Project To Ease Port Jefferson Station Traffic Slated To Begin
PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Motorists on Long Island are rejoicing over the announcement of a much-needed road reconstruction project.
The $25.6 million project at the busy intersection of Routes 347 and 112 at Port Jefferson Station is slated to begin this month.
Local businessmen said the improvements are badly needed.

"Especially going down to Port Jeff on the weekends, the traffic won't back up. They're going to reroute it a little bit, change some of the intersections to jughandles. I think it'll be a lot better," Arnold Pollack told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
The intersection is among the busiest in Brookhaven Town. Motorists call it a congestion nightmare, Xirinachs reported.
The project is designed to improve traffic flow and safety. It'll also include new bike paths, a park and drainage improvements.
"It's been long awaited, we've heard about this project for 20 years," Pollack told Xirinachs. "We're looking forward to the new improvements."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the project on Friday. This will be the third in a series of improvements along Route 347, the governor said.
The project is expected to be complete in 2015.
