Procrastinators Prep For Last-Minute Super Saturday Christmas Shopping
NEW YORK (CBS 2) – The last shopping weekend before Christmas is here and many shopping procrastinators are expected to turn out in full force on "Super Saturday" morning.
Retailers are expecting stores to be just as crazy with doorbuster deals as Black Friday after many hundreds of shoppers already spent Friday night searching for the perfect gift at the Queens Center Mall.
"It's very stressful. It's very stressful. The lines are ridiculous and I'm ready to die right now," Tania Joseph-Pauline told CBS 2's Magee Hickey.
The real question for the weekend though is: are the discounts really that good?
Many stores are holding firm on prices, and some retail experts call it the annual game of chicken between shoppers and stores. But it's also between retailers themselves.
No one store wants to be the last one to hold firm on a price so that's why K-Mart already cut prices and increased promotions on popular toys.
Meanwhile, retail experts said it's not too late to get what you want.
"Don't panic. There are tons of great things you can do, particularly this weekend," said Alexa Von Tobel of learnvest.com.
But if shoppers can't get out this weekend to finish shopping, there's a calendar of last-minute bargains.
On Tuesday, book stores cut their prices.
On Wednesday, toy stores receive their final shipments of the super popular items, making it a great day to buy toys.
On Thursday, retailers will make final discounts on clothing and handbags.
Von Tobel said there's another alternative to avoid the rush in the stores altogether.
"There are a lot of discounts online and free shipping. Just remember the cost of running all over the city in a car. Save money by doing things online," Von Tobel said.
