Cops: Pregnant Woman Gunned Down Outside Bay Shore Home

BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A pregnant woman died after she was found shot inside a car outside her Long Island home, police said.

Investigators said they responded to reports of gunshots around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and found the woman unresponsive inside a Toyota Camry outside 1737 Stein Drive in Bay Shore. She was shot multiple times, police said.

The woman, identified as Milagro "Millie" Canjura, 31, was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. The woman was six months pregnant with a girl, 1010 WINS Glenn Schuck reported.

Neighbors described hearing rapid gunfire.

"In cold blood," neighbor Neil Washington told Schuck. "That's the part that disturbs me. They shot this young lady in cold blood. And the most distrubing part of this whole thing that was going on last night is to come out to the corner of the yard, and you could actually see her body slumped over. Breaks my heart."

While investigators haven't yet given a motive for the shooting, neighbors told CBS 2's Don Champion there was a drive-by shooting at the same home three weeks ago.

"So we've kind of all been on pins and needles ever since that first incident happened because it's just sad," said neighbor Yvonne Simpson. "There's no other way to put it."

Neighbors also told CBS 2's Steve Langford a baby shower was held at the home for Canjura just a few days ago. An "It's A Girl" sign was still hanging up outside the home, announcing what was expected to be a joyous occasion.

"You know this isn't the first time we've had a shooting around here, but you know something like this, this is serious," Simpson said.

Friends and family have been expressing their grief on Canjura's Facebook page, which features a photo of Canjura's ultrasound under the heading "My princess," Langford reported.

Police have not yet said whether they believe Canjura was the intended target. No arrest has been made.
