Smith, who is nine months pregnant, thought that could be the day her little boy was born.
"He's moving. He's kicking. He's punching. So, I'm getting nervous. I'm like 'Okay, am I about to go into labor?' because he's moving so much," Smith said.
She said people told her that when there is a full moon and a hurricane a lot of people go into labor.
Amazingly, Smith worked for 17 hours non-stop during the storm answering 911 calls and dispatching fellow officers.
Some of those calls involved women in labor.
"I was nervous. I see trees falling down; the wind is blowing," she told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall. "It was overwhelming but I did what I had to do."
Smith said surprisingly she was not exhausted at the end of the day.
She believes the baby gave her energy.
