Power Restored In Queens After Utility Poles Topple
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Power was back on Wednesday in one Queens neighborhood after a string of utility poles was sent tumbling like dominoes.
Chopper 2HD was over the scene along 157th Street in Springfield Gardens Tuesday. The problem started when a truck accidentally hit a pole , setting off a cascade collapse that plunged dozens of homes and businesses into the dark.
The poles were apparently weakened by either insects or rotted wood.
"I heard a very loud bang and all my lights went out and I came out and when I looked I saw the pole crashed into my car," said resident Joycent Moncrieffe.
No injuries were reported and power was restored overnight.
