A, B, C & D Subway Lines Experience 2nd Power Outage In Less Than 24 Hours
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Service was disrupted for hours on several subway lines Friday following a power outage in Manhattan.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it had to stop some trains on the A, B, C, and D lines after a power outage at 81st Street and Central Park West knocked out subway signals.
The outage occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, disrupting service on those lines in both directions between 59th and 125th streets in Manhattan.
Extensive Delays On A, B, C & D Subway Lines After Earlier Power Problems
At least four trains became stuck in the tunnels, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.
"We left 42nd Street and just got stuck in the tunnels," straphanger Robert Jameson said. "We were there about an hour."
The trains were eventually removed from the tunnels and brought into nearby stations.
At least two people fell ill, including a pregnant woman who was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, Papa reported.
Service was restored around 11:45 a.m. with extensive delays.
Transit officials believe a metal panel may have come in contact with the third rail causing the outage, CBS 2 reported.
This was the second power outage in less than 24 hours that impacted service on the A, B, C and D lines.
At least one train was stranded for about an hour Thursday night following a power failure between 125th Street and Columbus Circle.
