Power Loss? Alex Rodriguez Homerless In 53 At-Bats
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter snapped a long homerless skid by going deep twice Sunday in a 12-5 beating of the Rangers on Sunday.
When will it be Alex Rodriguez's turn?
A-Rod was one of the hottest hitters in the league through the first three weeks, batting .366 with four home runs and 10 RBI in his first 13 games.
Since that day, Rodriguez has looked like a completely different hitter.
The third baseman hasn't homered in 53 at-bats. He's batted .170 since April 23 and eight of the nine hits he has in that span were singles. The other was a double.
Hitting coach Kevin Long and Rodriguez went through a film session Sunday, and Rodriguez saw what Long has often seen from the cleanup hitter when he gets off the rails: too much kick in the left (back) leg.
"It was way up and it has been there for a while," Long said. "Usually, he makes a quick adjustment. This time it has taken a little longer."
"He's a click away from being really, really hot again. (Sunday) was a huge step in the right direction. I told him if he continues to do what he did (during the session), it's going to turn around pretty quickly."
Rodriguez enters tonight's game against the Royals batting .263 with 5 home runs.
