Power Restored To 40,000 PSE&G Customers In New Jersey
FAIR LAWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Power has been restored to more than 40,000 New Jersey customers who were left in the dark briefly on the evening of New Year's Eve.
According to the Public Service Electric and Gas Company's website, 26,576 customers in Passaic County and 13,542 in Bergen lost power Tuesday evening.
A PSE&G spokesman told WCBS 880 the outages were related to an issue at the Fair Lawn switching station. Workers quickly arrived at the scene and largely fixed the problem within an hour.
New Jersey residents have complained about repeated losses of power in recent months.
The first outage happened last month -- a strange, sweeping blackout against the Jersey riverfront south of the George Washington Bridge. About 24,000 customers lost power in that incident, following a failure at the Bergen switching station in Ridgefield.
Another outage happened earlier this month in towns along the Bergen-Hudson county line, and yet another happened Monday night – knocking out power to some 12,000 customers in Cliffside Park, Fairview, and North Bergen.
North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco said he was "not happy at all."
Sacco said earlier this month that PSE&G has been confused and uncertain in the face of the blackouts.
