Power Crews Work To Fix Broken Power Cable In Long Island Sound; Electrical Service Not Impacted
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Repairs are underway to fix a cable that supplies power to Long Island.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported Friday, there's been no impact on electrical service, but a power cable under the Long Island Sound has been damaged, causing fluid to leak into the water.

"We have crews in the water and they're isolating a leak and they're going to be deploying measures to capture the cable fluid and close it at the failure point," New York Power Authority spokesman Paul DeMichele said.
The fluid leaking into the Sound is not a danger to wildlife, Haskell reported.
Paul DeMichele says there are actually four cables, one of which is a spare. "The plan, which is undergoing as we speak, is going to be to take the one that's out of use and swap it in with the damaged one."
The 26-mile line runs from Yonkers to Hempstead.
