Power Boat Hits Moored Sailboat On Hudson River
NEW YORK (CBS) ― Police said a speeding powerboat crashed into a sailboat moored on the Hudson River. Two people were asleep inside the sailboat.
No one was injured in the Sunday morning incident in Westchester County. Police say damage to both boats was estimated at $45,000. They say the crash ripped off the sailboat's mast.
The operator of the powerboat, Robert J. Perry, of Yorktown Heights, was arrested on misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, reckless operating and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police said Perry was traveling at a high speed. He was going east on the Hudson River around 4 a.m. Sunday toward the Cortlandt Yacht Club.
The occupants of the sailboat were awakened by the crash and called 911.
Perry is due in court Aug. 16. The name of his lawyer was not immediately on record.
The Club began in 1963.
