Report: Porzingis' Agent Refused To Let Sixers Meet Rookie Before Draft
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Knicks fans should be thankful that Kristap Porzingis' agent wouldn't let the Philadelphia 76ers meet the rookie sensation.
A new report reveals Porzingis fell into the Knicks' lap in large part because the Sixers weren't granted access to him.
Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski reported Andy Miller wouldn't allow Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie to work out or even meet the 7-foot-3 Porzingis prior to the 2015 NBA Draft.
"After most of the pro day executives cleared out of the gym in Vegas in mid-June, 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie lingered to meet with Miller. Hinkie stopped him in the lobby and asked Miller about a chance to sit down and visit with Porzingis," Wojnarowski reported.
The situation then reportedly became uncomfortable between the two.
"'You said that I would get a meeting with him here,' Hinkie told Miller," according to Yahoo! Sports.
"I said, 'I'd try, and it's not going to work out, Sam,'" Miller responded.
"An awkward silence lingered, the GM and agent, standing and staring. The Porzingis camp wanted no part of the Sixers' situation at No. 3. Miller couldn't stop Philadelphia from drafting Porzingis, but he could limit the information they had to make a decision. And did. No physical. No meeting. No workout. The Sixers passed on Porzingis on draft night, clearing the way for the Knicks to select him," the report continued.
Porzingis has been a star in the making. Despite getting booed on draft night, he has become a rock star to Knicks fans.
The popular rookie is averaging 14 points and nearly eight rebounds a game.
