Port Chester Police Chief Arrested By FBI
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - The police chief of a Westchester County village has been arrested on charges he retaliated against his temporary replacement for cooperating with the FBI.
Joseph Krzeminski of Port Chester was arrested by the FBI on Monday and presented in federal court in White Plains. He was released on $100,000 bail.
The arrest came as the FBI investigates allegations surrounding the disappearance of more than $26,000 in cash and narcotics from the evidence room at the Port Chester Police Department.
Authorities say the 62-year-old Krzeminski physically threatened and retaliated against the department's acting chief, John Telesca, who was cooperating with the FBI. They say he barged into the acting chief's Port Chester home last Wednesday, shouting that the acting chief was a "rat.''
Krzeminski's lawyer called the allegations "absolutely false" and noted that his client had asked the FBI to investigate.
Krzeminski has been on leave from the department since September, around the time the FBI investigation began, the Journal News reported.
Port Chester police arrested Krzeminski last week after he refused to leave a Board of Trustees executive session, according to the Journal News.
