Port Authority: Police Catch Trucker Who Used Fake License Plate To Evade Tolls
FORT LEE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said that its police have caught a trucker who used a fake license plate to evade tolls.
Port Authority spokesman Al Della Fave said that the tractor-trailer was pulled over around 7 a.m. on Friday near the George Washington Bridge. The front license plate was missing, the back plate on the truck was covered with tape and the real New Jersey tag on the trailer was hidden by a fake New York one.
Della Fave said that the Two Angels, the Scotch Plains company that owns the truck, owes $53,000 in unpaid tolls.
Driver Stephen Taciak could not be reached. He's charged with theft of services and tampering with public records.
Two Angels owner John Thompson said that he had no comment.
