Partial PATH Service Coming Tuesday; Port Authority Gives Update On Holland Tunnel
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The PATH rail system has been suspended since before Sandy struck and when the storm did, a dramatic image was captured of floodwaters rushing into the Hoboken station.
Now comes good news for trans-Hudson commuters.
There will be partial PATH service as of 5 a.m. Tuesday, the Port Authority announced Monday.
There will be service from Journal Square to 33rd Street only, and there will be no stops at Christopher Street or 9th Street. Service will run from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The Holland Tunnel has been closed to regular traffic since before Sandy struck and, today, a Port Authority official gave an update that.
Buses are now being allowed through one lane of the north tube of the Holland Tunnel. It goes eastbound in the morning through noon and westbound in the evening.
"Crews are continuing to do some de-watering work," the Port Authority's John Ma told WCBS 880's Wayne Cabot when asked why no cars are being allowed in. "We have crews in in the south tunnel continuing some de-watering operations right now."
When asked if Ma had a timeline on the work, his answer was, "Not at this point, but I can assure you crews are working around the clock on this right now."
With the lack of options, trans-Hudson commuters have been utilizing other options, including ferries and buses.
