NJ Assembly Expected To Grill Port Authority Chairman At Committee Hearing
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The Port Authority will be put under the microscope Monday when its chairman testifies before a New Jersey Assembly committee.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the hearing is not about the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal, but it certainly seems to be the subtext.
"The Port Authority ceased to be an independent agency responsible for bi-state transportation and instead became another desk, another office, if you will, in the office of the New Jersey governor," said Assemblyman John Wisniewski, who has chaired the bridge hearings from the beginning.

Wisniewski said he will have many questions about the agency when Port Authority Chairman John Degnan goes before the Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee.
"Is this agency accountable? Can it be trusted? Does it have enough money to meet its obligations?" Wisniewski said.
Degnan was appointed by Christie after the start of the scandal.
