Port Authority Bus Terminal Partially Evacuated During Rush Hour Due To Fire
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Port Authority bus terminal had to be partially evacuated during the evening rush hour because of smoke caused by a fire in a trash compactor.
Officials say commuters at the terminal's north wing were told to leave after smoke billowed through the building blocks from Times Square.
The FDNY says a fire in a garage was called in about 4:25 p.m. A fire was found in a compactor, causing the smoke.
About 60 firefighters were laboring to bring the blaze under control about 6 p.m.
The Port Authority says there has been no disruption in bus service.
