Popular Long Island Haunted House Shut Down Due To Superstorm Sandy Damage
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One of the most popular haunted houses on Long Island will not open next month for Halloween after suffering damage during superstorm Sandy.
The Bayville Haunted Firehouse, put on by the town's fire company, has been scaring visitors from near and far since the early 1990s, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
But the ghouls and goblins that go bump in the night have been silenced. Mayor Douglas Watson said the water damage from the storm was too great.

"The basement was flooded pretty heavily," he said. "All the attractions were lost."
Over the years the event has been quite successful. It even paid for a $100,000 brand new ambulance. The mayor hopes the attraction makes a comeback in the future.
"It brought the village together," Mayor Watson said. "It was a good time to see people maybe that you hadn't seen in awhile, and we all put makeup on and the costumes and stuff like that."
