Poll: Weiner, Spitzer Leading Challengers In NYC Democratic Primaries
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two disgraced New York politicians are leading in a poll as they try to make comebacks.
The latest Quinnipiac University poll has former congressman Anthony Weiner edging City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in the New York City mayoral race by just three points, which is within the margin of error.
"Weiner leads the mayoral primary 25 to 22 [percent] over Christine Quinn, black voters making the difference," Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Director Maurice Carroll told WCBS 880's Rich Lamb on Monday.

Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 amid a texting scandal. He was caught sending racy pictures and messages to women who were not his wife.
The poll found Weiner got favorable marks from 29 percent of men and 21 percent of women.
In the New York City comptroller's race, ex-governor Eliot Spitzer, who joined the race very close to the deadline, is coming on strong. He will battle Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer for the Democratic nomination.
"Spitzer absolutely wipes out Scott Stringer for comptroller 48 to 33 [percent] in the Quinnipiac numbers. And once again, black voters make the big difference," Carroll said.

Spitzer resigned as governor amid a 2008 prostitution scandal.
Men back Spitzer 53 to 33 percent, while women back him 44 to 32 percent, the poll found.
Carroll added the only African-American in either contest -- Bill Thompson -- scores 11 percent in the mayor's race.
Quinnipiac University surveyed 738 New York City registered Democrats by phone from July 8 to 14 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
