Poll: Most New York City Residents Not Overly Worried About Terror Attack
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A new poll released ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks finds worry about another terrorist assault in New York City is at its lowest point since the 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center.
The NY1-Marist Poll released Thursday found 49 percent of New York City residents expressed concern about another attack, with 17 percent saying they were "very worried" and 32 percent feeling "worried."
Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, says more women than men are worried and more older people than younger people.
"Clearly, the lingering effects of what occurred a decade ago are still very real for a large number of New Yorkers," Miringoff said.

Miringoff said while many New Yorkers remain on guard concerning another attack, others think the threat has passed, and a majority said their lives have returned to normal.
"Six, seven, eight, nine years ago, we saw that was only about one in four New Yorkers thought their lives had returned to normal. Now, we're seeing it's 53 percent," he says.
More than a third said they're lives will never be normal again.
The telephone poll questioned 808 adults from July 20 to July 27. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Meanwhile, the Downtown Alliance released a study on Thursday declaring that the area near Ground Zero is "thriving as never before."
"Ten years after 9/11, Lower Manhattan has prevailed once again," declared the report.
