Poll: Mayor Bloomberg's Approval Rating Falls
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Last month, Mayor Michael Bloomberg had a 54 percent approval rating, in part for his handling of Tropical Storm Irene. On Wednesday, that rating fell to 45, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

The poll shows a majority of New York City voters believe Bloomberg lost his focus during his third term. Among Republicans, 64 percent share that sentiment, while Democrats and Independents by 52 and 47 percent respectively agree.
Regardless of how they feel about the mayor's policies, New York City voters like him as a person 60 - 25 percent.
"The job-approval bounce Mayor Michael Bloomberg got from his handling of Tropical Storm Irene has faded. He's back in the third-term blahs and slightly more than half of the neighbors think Hizzoner has lost focus," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "But New Yorkers still like Mayor Mike, whether or not they agree with him."
Polled Big Apple voters approve of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly 66 - 24 percent. That rating breaks down by 78 - 15 percent among white voters, 51 - 39 percent among black voters and 58 - 26 percent among Hispanic voters.

In the field of possible candidates for New York City's 2013 mayoral race, Kelly has the support of 25 percent of the voters - the largest margin. The next three contenders are City Council Speaker Christine Quinn with 17 percent, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz with 14 percent, and City Comptroller John Liu with 10 percent.
