Poll: Dem Majority In NY Senate In Jeopardy
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A poll shows Republicans would threaten the Democrats' state Senate majority if the November election was held now.
The Siena College poll finds Republican Pattie Ritchie with 48 percent of support to incumbent Democrat Darrel Aubertine's 45 percent in the 48th Senate District. That includes Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.
The poll found Democratic Sen. Brian X. Foley with an edge of 44 percent to 43 percent over Republican challenger Lee Zeldin in Suffolk County.
Two long-term Republicans - Sens. Hugh Farley of Schenectady and Frank Padavan of Queens - had more comfortable leads.
The poll questioned more than 400 voters in each district. The margin of error was between 4.8 points and 4.9 points, plus or minus.
Democrats have a 32-30 majority.
