Poll: Booker Tops Lonegan By 16 Percent For US Senate
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A new poll shows Democrat Cory Booker with a double-digit lead over Republican Steve Lonegan in the race for U.S Senate.
The Monmouth University/Asbury Park Press Poll out Tuesday shows Booker favored by 54 percent, while 38 percent back Lonegan.

Unaffiliated voters appear evenly split between the two candidates. But the poll finds Lonegan remains unknown to more than half of the electorate.
"There is still an outside chance that the dynamics of this race could turn in Lonegan's favor. But it would take a sea change in partisan turnout to do it," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
The Oct. 16 special election will determine who completes the last 15 months of Sen. Frank Lautenberg's term. The Democrat died in office in June.
New Jersey voters have not elected a Republican to the Senate in more than 40 years.
The telephone survey of 696 likely voters was conducted Aug. 15-18 with an error margin of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
