Police: Woman Driving Pickup In Westhampton Beach Accidentally Hits Husband
WESTHAMPTON BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police on eastern Long Island say a driver accidentally struck and killed her 80-year-old husband in a high school parking lot.
Newsday reports Thursday that Westhampton Beach police have identified the victim as Ernest Davis of Westhampton.
Police say the driver of the 2009 GMC pickup truck was his wife, 69-year-old Diane Herold.
The accident happened last Saturday morning on a sidewalk outside Westhampton Beach High School.
Davis appeared to be directing his wife into a parking space at a garden show. Police say she backed into him, pinning him underneath the truck.
Westhampton Police Chief Trevor Gonce said the investigation is continuing.
A funeral for Davis was held on Wednesday.
