Police: Woman Caught Driving While Intoxicated With 3 Kids On Long Island
NORTH AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police on Thursday arrested a woman for allegedly driving while intoxicated with three children – one of whom police said she had just picked up from school.
Benigna Pinedamata, 29, drove her 2003 Land Rover Freelander in front of Northeast Elementary School, on Albany Avenue in North Amityville, police said.
When she picked up her 5-year-old son from the school, she was stopped by an administration official and a security officer before being allowed out of the parking lot, police said.
The officials suspected Pinedamata of being intoxicated and called 911, police said.
Pinedamata, of Amityville, was charged with three counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger – or Leandra's Law – as well as three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated, circumvention of an interlock device, and aggravated unlicensed driving.
She was to be held overnight in jail and arraigned in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
