Police: Upstate NY Stabbing Suspect Leads Officers On Wild Chase In NJ
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man wanted in connection with a homicide in upstate New York has been arrested in New Jersey after leading police on a wild chase, authorities said Monday.
New York State Police were chasing after 45-year-old David Campos around 9:40 a.m. Monday when they called the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police to help in the pursuit, authorities said.
Police said Campos, who was wanted in the stabbing death of his girlfriend in Troy, New York earlier Monday morning, was headed south on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in a black Chrysler 200.
At points during the chase, police said Campos hit speeds of nearly 90 miles per hour, crossed into northbound traffic while going the wrong way and drove through a gas station passing attendants and motorists in Englewood Cliffs.
Officers from other local agencies joined in and finally caught up with Campos at a toll plaza on the Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike in Ridgefield Park, police said.
Campos was taken into custody. Police said multiple charges and extradition are pending.
