Police: Teen Sexually Assaulted, Robbed At Northport LIRR Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a suspect who they say robbed and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy at a Long Island Rail Road station.
It happened on August 10 inside a bathroom at the Northport station on the Port Jefferson Line of the LIRR.
"The fact that it happened here, it can happen anywhere," Northport commuter Keelin Cheely told CBS 2's John Slattery. "It shouldn't happen at all. It's frightening."
Police say the attack happened at 2 p.m. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, had just gone into the unisex bathroom designed for only one person.
Police say he was followed in by a man who locked the door behind the two of them.
"And the sexual assault took place and a robbery," said Sgt. Kim Riley with the MTA police.
The suspect stole $50 from the victim, who then called police.
The attack has rattled commuters.
"Considering I'm here at that time, it's pretty scary," said commuter Amanda Swist. "I thought there was a camera."
Sharp-eyed commuters have seen a camera inside the building, but police say it's a dummy that was mounted by the news vendor.
The suspect is said to be 25 to 40, 5'10' to 6' tall weighing about 250 to 300 pounds. He had a double chin and a mole under one eye.
"He has a tattoo on the neck, lettering. Had a do-rag. We had a pretty good description of the suspect," said Sgt. Riley.
Police call it horrific but isolated and hope someone can identify the attacker from the sketch.
