Police Talk Man Down From Verrazano-Narrows Bridge
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police talked down an apparently suicidal man from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge on Tuesday.
The 62-year-old man was threatening to jump from the bridge's Staten Island-bound upper level around 11 a.m. Two NYPD officers, an NYPD detective and an officer with the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority began talking to the man until the Hostage Negotiation Team arrived. Negotiator Lt. Jack Cambria then convinced the man, who police have not identified, to voluntarily step away from the edge of the bridge, authorities said.
The man was then secured using a safety harness and brought to safety. He was transported to Lutheran Medical Center for evaluation, police said.
