Police: Suspect Who Prompted AMBER Alert In The Bronx Arrested
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect wanted for triggering an AMBER Alert over the weekend has been arrested, police said Monday.
Fitz Edwards, 29, has been charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, arson, reckless endangerment and other charges in connection with the alleged abduction of his two children.
On Sunday, Edwards was having an argument with the 26-year-old mother of his two young children when he pulled out a gun and fired at her, police said.
The bullet missed, but police said he then set her apartment on fire and took off with their kids, 5-year-old Nahzir Edwards 2-year-old Mlyliah Edwards.
Police said Edwards walked about three blocks with the children to Magenta Street and Bronx Boulevard and carjacked a gray 2005 Honda Accord at gunpoint. The driver was not injured.
An AMBER Alert was issued.
The two kids were found several hours later unharmed inside the car and the alert was canceled.
