Police: Suspect Posed As Water Employee As 81-Year-Old Man's Home Was Burglarized
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday released a sketch of a suspect who allegedly pretended to be a water employee to get into the home of an 81-year-old Brooklyn man, while two others followed the suspect and stole his safe.
Around 5:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, the suspect knocked on the man's door in Sunset Park, and asked to check the water meter, police said. The man let the suspect in and walked him downstairs to the meter, police said.
While the first suspect was in the basement with the man, the other two suspects walked in and took a safe containing necklaces, a watch, a ring and assorted papers from a second floor bedroom, police said.
The three suspects all left, police said. No one was reported injured.
Police released a sketch of the suspect who posed as the water employee.
