Police: Suspect Arrested In Connection With Shooting At Crown Heights Sneaker Store
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Brooklyn shoe store that left a 12-year-old boy and another man injured, according to police.
The incident happened Monday night just before 8 p.m. inside the Rugged Sole hat and shoe store in Crown Heights.
Police surrounded the business after investigators said an argument broke out between an employee and another man who lives in the neighborhood and often hangs out at the store.
"I think they got into words, the guy threatened our employee that he would come back and shoot him and he came back with a gun," said Steve Park, a friend of the store's owner.
The man left the store and reportedly returned armed with a gun and opened fire, police said. But the employee apparently also had a gun and shot back, according to police.
The 12-year-old boy and 34-year-old man were caught in the crossfire. It's still not clear if the victims were inside the store or out on the sidewalk at the time of the shooting.
The boy was shot in the leg and the man in the arm and both were taken to the hospital.
Cops have charged Kenneth Meeks, 45, with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, police said.
Police are still looking for the other suspect.
Both victims are in stable condition.
