Police: Suspect Arrested In 2009 Stray-Bullet Slaying
NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say they have arrested a suspect in the 2009 slaying of an 87-year-old woman in Brooklyn who died after being struck by a stray bullet.
Malcolm Mitchell was arrested Friday after police say they linked him to the killing of Anna Surman on Aug. 2, 2009.
Surman was hit in the courtyard of the Coney Island public housing development where she lived. Police said at the time that an armed suspect was chasing another man and fired three shots. One struck Surman.
The 26-year-old Brooklyn suspect was expected to be arraigned on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
It was unclear Saturday whether he had an attorney.
There was no phone number listed at his home address.
