Police Shoot, Wound Man Who Allegedly Pointed Gun In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police shot and wounded a 31-year-ol d man Tuesday after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers, only a mile away from the scene of another police-involved shooting less than 24 hours earlier.
Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, 75th Precinct anti-crime officers were sent to 456 Glenmore Ave. in the East New York section of Brooklyn after a report that a man was squatting in the building.
A sergeant and three officers saw a man peering out of the window. A fourth officer saw him run out the back door, police said.
The suspect then pointed a gun at an officer waiting at the back door. The officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but the suspect refused, and the officer shot the man once in the torso, police said.
The suspect was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was held under police guard. His condition was reported as stable, 1010 WINS reported.
The officer who shot the suspect was taken to North Shore Hospital for observation, police said.
Officers recovered the .38-caliber revolver the suspect pointed, police said. A search of the home also turned up another gun.
The scene of the latest incident was less than a mile from the site where police shot and wounded a 16-year-old boy on the roof of a building.
That incident happened just after 9:35 p.m. Monday. A sergeant and an officer responding to reports of gunfire from a rooftop on Atlantic Avenue near Monaco Place in Brownsville and began canvassing an adjoining rooftop, authorities said.
After guns were fired from the rooftop, police shot one of two suspects, a 16-year-old who was armed with a Ruger revolver, in both arms and his right ankle, police said.
The teen -- identified by police as Gino Mercado of Brooklyn -- was taken to Brookdale Hospital under police guard and was last reported in stable condition.
The second suspect -- James Caples, 22, also of Brooklyn -- was also taken into custody.
