Police Seek Trio In Connection With Two Yonkers Robberies
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Yonkers police are on the hunt for three men who they said pulled off two armed robberies within minutes of each other.
As CBS 2's Weijia Jiang reported, the robberies took place on Tuesday just 15 minutes apart. Both incidents were caught on surveillance video.
Video from the first robbery shows three men with their faces covered and wearing hooded sweatshirts storm into the Irish Mini Mart on McLean Avenue, pushing a woman into the store from the sidewalk.
One man appears to order the woman to the ground at gunpoint, Jiang reported. Two suspects can then be seen pointing their weapons at the employee while they take money from the cash register.
"I'm scared, everybody is scared," clerk Mohammed Slah said.
Slah said it was the first robbery in his 19 years running the store.
"He said 'Give me money. Give me money, open the cash.' I say, 'OK. No bother me, no touch me, whatever you want, take it,'" Slah said.
Only 15 minutes later and about 4 miles away, the same trio struck again, Jiang reported. This time, they hit a Dunkin' Donuts.
Video of the incident shows two of the men jump over the counter and remove the register drawer, while the other suspect clears it of cash. In less than one minute, they flee the scene, Jiang reported.
"I was petrified at that time, but it was my first time too," said a Dunkin' Donuts employee who did not want to be identified. "...He just grabbed me and pushed me into the bathroom. I didn't get to see the person's face or who they were."
The neighborhood is now on edge as the suspects are on the run from police.
"Just walking around, I will second guess myself now,"Irish Mini Mart customer Ash Bronne said. "I'm hoping they'll stop these guys. This is a really nice area."
Police said tips from the public are crucial because although the surveillance video is clear, there is no good view of the suspects' faces.
No one was hurt during the robberies, Jiang reported.
