Police Seek Robber Who Impersonated Cop Near Penn Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were asking for help from the public in finding a man who impersonated a police officer as he robbed another man near Madison Square Garden and Penn Station.
At around 8 p.m. on Jan. 13, the suspect approached a man, flashed a shield of some kind, and claimed to be a police officer, police said. The suspect then asked his victim to show identification and hand over his cell phone, and the victim complied.
The suspect then instructed the victim to enter the subway station and swipe his MetroCard. An entrance to the 34th Street A, C and E train stop is located at the site.
The suspect then fled the subway station.
The robber is described as a black male in his 20s, standing about 5-foot-7 and weighing about 200 pounds, with black jeans, black bubble coat and a black wool hat.
Police have released a surveillance video of the suspect.
