Clerk Speaks Out As Police Search For Suspects In Bronx Deli Robbery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A Bronx store clerk is reeling after two masked men held him up at gunpoint in a Tuesday robbery.
Police responded to the Express Deli on Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood just after midnight Tuesday, where two individuals allegedly approached the store's employees and demanded money.
"I'm working, and come in to two men taking money," Adeep Alnajjar tells CBS2's Jessica Borg.
His cousin who also works at the family-run business says he felt threatened.
"They said don't move or say something," he said. "I'm gonna shoot you."
Police say the gunmen stole about $1,600 from the register and several hundred from a customer who had just taken money out of the ATM. They also stole the customer and store clerk's cell phones.
Alnajjar says the suspects started to become violent, sticking a gun in his rib.
CBS2 reports that the store has been in the neighborhood for roughly 20 years with no major problems.
Customer Mike Hewitt says he's not scared off by the robbery. He is, however, angry.
"It's pretty stupid," he said. "This is a pretty quiet area and there's a lot of police here all the time. I'm pretty sure they're going to get caught.
The individuals were last seen heading northbound on Bainbridge Avenue. They're described as black males wearing black hooded jackets and black pants.
