Police Searching For Suspect In West Village Sex Assault

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a man who they said sexually assaulted a woman in the West Village as she walked down the street.

It happened last Friday just before 4:30 a.m.

A 30-year-old woman was walking near Greenwich and Horatio streets when police said a man walked up to her from behind, grabbed her and then sexually assaulted her. The man then took off, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.

The suspect was seen on nearby surveillance video and is described as a white man between 25 and 35 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 135 to 145 pounds, police said.

He was last seen wearing a black blazer, black dress pants, black shoes and a light-colored dress shirt. Police said his jacket looks blue in the surveillance photos because of the lighting, CBS 2's Weijia Jiang reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or text tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
