Police Search For Suspect In Reported Possible Knockout Attack
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were searching for a suspect who punched a woman in the back of the head and knocked her down as she walked with her 7-year-old daughter in Brooklyn this past weekend.
Multiple published reports have indicated that the attack might have been another instance of the "knockout game."
The attack happened around 2:45 p.m. Saturday at East 12th Street and Elm Avenue in Midwood, Brooklyn, police said.
The woman was walking with her daughter when the suspect approached her, punched her in the back of the head, and ran off, police said.
The victim suffered minor injuries to her knees and hands as she fell.
The suspect was described as a black male standing 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9 inches tall with short braids, wearing a black wool cap, a green jacket, and dark-colored jeans, police said.
Police have released a sketch of the suspect.
A wave of attacks, where the perpetrator attempts to knock out an unsuspecting stranger with a single blow, began in Crown Heights in October. Police had previously beefed up patrols in some of the communities that have seen several incidents.
The incident was one of two suspected "knockout game" incidents in Brooklyn on Saturday, according to a New York Daily News report. In the second incident, a group of teens blocked a 47-year-old woman's path at Hendrix Street and Pitkin Avenue in East New York around 6:45 p.m., and a girl in the group punched the woman in the head and knocked her down, police told the newspaper.
