Police Search For Hit-And-Run Driver After Death Of 13-Year-Old Brooklyn Boy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search continued Sunday for a hit-and-run driver who killed a 13-year-old boy in Brooklyn.

Police said 13-year-old Henry Garcia was riding his bike on 20th Avenue in Bensonhurst Saturday afternoon and may have fallen off before being run over by a green SUV that fled the scene.

Jasleen Chuck, 13, pleaded with the driver who hit her friend to come forward.

"To the guy who hurt him, who couldn't stop, couldn't stop for one second and go look at him, why didn't you stop? Why did you go?" she said. "Why did you do this to us? He's only an innocent boy."

Garcia died later at the hospital. Since then his family has been holding vigil.

Antonio Garcia, the victim's brother, was the last to speak with him.

"To go home and be careful, the last words he said, he said 'OK, OK' and he left," Garcia recounted.

CBS 2's Ann Mercogliano spoke with one witness who captured the incident on her surveillance camera and watched it all from her window.

"You think 'Is it a movie?' You don't know what to do," Maria Mineo  said.

Mineo believed the driver didn't seem to know what happened.

"I don't think he knew what happened. He didn't speed didn't slow down," she said. "The second car realized it. Didn't slow down, but looked at the kid, then he left."

Police disagree with Mineo's assessment. A surveillance video shows a green Ford Explorer hitting Garcia, slowing to a stop, and then driving away, according to police.

Garcia was the youngest of five children, and dreamed of becoming a soccer player.

"We all love him. He was only 13," Chuck said.
