All Clear Given At Maher Terminal In Port Elizabeth After Radiation Concerns

PORT ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - The all-clear has been given after a radiation alert prompted a security response at Maher Terminal in Port Elizabeth.

It came as customs officials were examining a container.

Aerial images from the scene showed long lines of trucks waiting to exit the facility as the investigation was under way.

At least a 15 emergency vehicles were spotted at the scene, along with numerous officers.

After about 90 minutes, the situation was resolved.

"Today, after detecting a high reading and out of an abundance of caution, CBP, FBI, the Port Authority of NY/NJ and other law enforcement partners initiated protocols to isolate and verify the source of the alarm," officials with Customs and Border Protection said in statement. "After review and confirmation from CBP's Laboratories & Scientific Services and in conjunction with our federal, state, and local partners, the container was deemed safe."
