Police Rescue Injured Swan In West Babylon
WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police came to the rescue of an injured swan Wednesday after reports that a fishing hook was stuck in its bill.
Marine Bureau officers were called to Santapogue Creek in West Babylon just before 9 a.m. When officers Pete Conte and Rob Jenkins arrived, they found the swan with fishing line around its neck and the hook in its bill.
Police tried to get the swan, but the water was too shallow for their boat. That's when police said a good Samaritan, Gerry Robedee, let officers use his boat to reach the injured bird.
Conte and Jenkins found the swan and were able to remove the fishing line and hook from its neck and mouth.
