Police Reopening Investigation Into 1986 Murder Of Long Beach Student
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) --Police on Long Island are reopening the investigation into a cold case murder of a Staten Island rabbinical student.
The Nassau County Police Department will hold a press conference Tuesday on the death of 15-year-old Chaim Weiss.
His pajama-clad body was found in his bed at Mesivta of Long Island in Long Beach on Nov. 1, 1986.
Police said Weiss had died of multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and face, Newsday reported. The medical examiner's office described it as a "frenzy-type killing" in which a "hatchet-type" weapon was used, the paper reported.
Authorities said at the time there were no signs of forced entry into the building, robbery or sexual assault.
Members of the Weiss family are expected to attend the news conference, where police are expected to announce plans to raise the Crime Stoppers reward in hopes of getting new information in the case.
