Police Release Surveillance Photos In UWS Home Invasion, Attack
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday released surveillance photos of two suspects who allegedly stormed into an apartment on the Upper West Side and attacked the man and woman who were inside.
Around 3:50 a.m. Saturday, July 12, the suspects knocked on the door of an apartment building at 104th Street and West End Avenue. A 24-year-old woman answered, and the suspects forced their way in, police said.
The suspects attacked the woman and a 32-year-old man who was also in the apartment with a metal flashlight, police said.
Authorities earlier said the victims were slashed, and investigators said one of the suspects was also stabbed in the torso during the struggle. The victims were taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center with trauma to the head and face, police said.
The woman was treated and released, while the man remained hospitalized as of Tuesday, police said. His condition was reported as stable.
The building where the attack happened has a doorman, but the suspects got up to the 17th floor. Joe, who lives in the building, told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten this past weekend that he thinks he knows how the two suspect got by.
"I got in somehow because there is a temporary door guy who let me in," he said. "Basically that's just New York City. Stuff happens."
Maxine Yard, who cares for a senior citizen in the building, said the incident has left her worried about her patient's safety.
"I don't think it's safe. I'm scared because I have a senior in there," she said.
Police said nothing was taken from the apartment after the couple fought back against their attackers, CBS 2 reported.
The suspects in the attack were both described as white males – one of them in his late 40s, standing about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing 200 pounds with a bald head. The second suspect was about 40, standing 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, with black hair.
Police on Tuesday released surveillance videos of both suspects.
