Police: Reggae Star Busted On Marijuana Charge After Routine Traffic Stop In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 1980s reggae star is behind bars after a routine traffic stop in the Bronx led police to discover a stash of over 300 pounds of marijuana.

Singer Denroy Morgan, 66, and another man were arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car after it was pulled over, police said.

Investigators said they found 25 pounds of the drug in the trunk after Morgan, of Springfield, Mass., was allegedly pulled over for running a stop sign.

The bust led to another 300 pounds of marijuana inside a house on Taylor Avenue in Soundview. Police said Wayne Swavy, 46, was arrested after he was seen leaving the residence. Police said they also found 16 pounds of pot in his car.

The worth of the drugs could be anywhere between $120,000 to $300,000 depending on the quality.

Morgan had a top 40 hit with the dance song "I'll Do Anything For You" in 1981.
