Police Quickly Catch 4 Suspects After Long Island Break-In, Beating
BAYPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island arrested four young men Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a man's Bayport home and beating him.
Two men confronted the victim in his home on Bayview Avenue around 12:25 p.m. Thursday, Suffolk County police said. The men attacked the victim and stole cash and jewelry before running off, police said.
The victim ran into a neighbor's house and tried to follow the suspects, but they got away in a waiting white Honda on Connetquot Road and sped off, police said.
The victim called police and gave them a description of the car and the suspects, police said. Suffolk County Highway Patrol officers Matthew DeWitt and John Hnat saw a car before people inside heading west on Sunrise Highway and Bohemia, and arrested them at 12:55 p.m.
Ramone Beauford, 18, of Bayport; Javier Gonzalez, 17, of Brentwood; Osman Flores, 20, of Central Islip, and Nelson Vanegas, 19, of Brentwood, were all charged with first-degree burglary.
The victim was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Center in East Patchogue and was treated for non-life-threatening facial and body injuries.
The suspects were to be held overnight and arraigned in Suffolk County First District Court on Wednesday. The investigation continued Tuesday night.
