Police Probe New Jersey Man's Death In Suspected Road Rage Incident
IRVINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Monday night were investigating a possible case of road rage that left a man dead in New Jersey.
Robert Sabio, 70, of Roselle Park, was driving on Springfield Avenue in Irvington just before 11 p.m. last Wednesday when he backed into a vehicle and got into a quarrel with its occupants, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Sabio was assaulted and rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Friday, prosecutors said. The cause of his death was blunt force trauma.
An obituary for Sabio said he went by the nickname "Pookie," and worked for Accurate Bushing Company in Garwood before changing careers to work as a funeral assistant for the Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home in Union.
Sabio was survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda, as well as three daughters and eight grandchildren, the obituary said. A funeral mass for Sabio will be held Wednesday.
