Police Probe Fatal Shooting Of Newburgh Child
NEWBURGH, N.Y. (1010 WINS/AP) -- Police in Newburgh continued their investigation Wednesday into the fatal shooting of a 10-year-old boy.
All they were willing to say was that other children were present when Brandon Scandrett was shot on Monday, and that a man was facing a weapon possession charge. Acting police Chief Michael Ferrara said it was difficult piecing together events because the witnesses were children.
The boy was pronounced dead in the apartment where he was shot.
Police charged 51-year-old Robert Gooding with felony criminal possession of a weapon. They weren't willing to say if he was related to the boy.
The type of gun involved in the shooting and other details also haven't been released.
It wasn't immediately known Wednesday morning if Gooding was still in custody or if he has a lawyer.
